If you are like me, you love the Sky One-Touch top on your Wrangler. The ease of opening and closing the roof are convenient and provide more opportunities to ride with the top open without needing to worry about storing roof panels or stop the Jeep to lower or close a soft top. The SOT does not come without its challenges. The primary challenge is finding a roof cargo solution, which does not interfere with the SOT operation.
After a lot of research, I decided to go with Thule products. I had to buy each piece independent from the others as there was not a package offered to meet the need (feet, locks, bars, cargo box). Also, I cannot locate the weight limit of this solution, but I’ve had 100 lbs of cargo in my cargo box with this solution without any issues.
Here are the Amazon links to each product I have in my solution.
Thule Rapid Gutter Feet 8″ Clearance Height
Thule Lock Cylinders
Thule Wingbar Evo 160 (60″)
Thule Force Rooftop Cargo Box
Thule Rapid Gutter Feet 8″ Clearance Height
I decided to purchase the Thule Rapid Gutter Feet 8″ Clearance Height due to the clearance height of 8″ being plenty of space between the bottom of the bar and the top of the SOT. My SOT opens and closes without any issues and does not touch any part of the feet or cross bars.
Installing the feet was easy. The feet clamp onto the gutters and have rubber on the contact points so your paint does not get scratched.
Thule Lock Cylinders
These Thule Lock Cylinders are keyed alike and fit in the knobs of the Thule Rapid Gutter Feet. I installed locks on my feet so people could not remove the entire cargo, which would be easily done with enough people to help lift it off the top. The locks make it more difficult for a would be thief to abscond with my gear.
Thule Wingbar Evo 160 (60″)
I chose the Thule Wingbar Evo 160 (60″) due to its versatility in what I can mount to these bars. They are sold in pairs, are compatible with the gutter feet, compatible with T-Track equipment and mounts, and are durable. The 60″ length was plenty wide for my purposed, however as you can see from the image below, you could go a little wider and still not have to worry about sticking out further than your mirrors.
These bars do add some noticeable wind noise when driving at freeway speeds, and I do take an MPG hit with them on, but I do love how they look on my Jeep.
Thule Force Rooftop Cargo Box
I love my Thule Force Rooftop Cargo Box and the amount of cargo I can pack in it. When mounted on my Wrangler, I primarily use the box for wake surf boards, wakeboards, surf boards, snowboards, skis, and bulkier cargo I cannot neatly stack in the rear cargo space. I can install this box in 5 minutes by myself. The clamps the box come with are easy to use, let you tighten as tight as they need without allowing you to overtighten and damage anything, and work well with the Thule Wingbar Evo and other Thule branded bars. The slots for the clamps allow for various positions so you can install your bars at any separation within the limitations of the box clamp holes.
